Lviv. St. Onuphrius Monastery Complex & Bell Tower

St. Onuphrius Monastery Complex in Lviv is one of the oldest in Ukraine. Its foundation dates to the 13th century and associated with the name of the Galician Prince Lev Danylovych. Documentary information about the monastery of St. Onuphrius originated only from the second half of the fifteenth century, but there are no written mentions about the bell tower until the middle of the XVII century. The first archival information about it goes back to 1654. In this year in May, the "senior church" Matviy Fedorovych in the expenditures of Lviv Stauropegia notes: "he asked the bricklayers that the bell tower is stoned in the monastery of St. Onuphrius." The bell tower was originally single-tiered, and in 1681 the stone tier was built up with wooden. The bell tower acquired its modern appearance only in 1822.

Монастир св. Онуфрія у Львові — один із найдавніших в Україні. Його заснування датують ХIII ст. і пов'язують з іменем галицького князя Льва Даниловича. Документальні відомості про монастир св. Онуфрія походять щойно з другої половини ХV ст., але про дзвіницю до середини XVII ст. немає жодних писемних згадок. Перші архівні відомості про неї сягають 1654 р. Під цим роком у травні "старший церковний" Матвій Федорович у видатках львівської Ставропігії нотує: "задав мулярам, що звоницю мурують в монастирі св. Онуфрія”. Дзвіниця спочатку була одноярусною, а 1681 р. мурований ярус надбудували дерев'яним. Сучасного вигляду дзвіниця набула лише 1822 року.
