Lviv. University and Park Named After Ivan Franko

The former building of the Galician Sejm (now the main building of The Ivan Franko National University of Lviv) was built in 1877-1881 according to the project of architect Juliusz Hochberger. The monumental structure of the Sejm was built in the style of historicism under the influence of the neo-renaissance architecture of Vienna in the second half of the nineteenth century. It is distinguished by the wealth of the sculptural and ornamental decoration. In front of the building, you will find the oldest city park in all of Ukraine – the Ivan Franko Park, laid by the Lviv burghers in the XVI century and then later transferred to the Jesuit monks. For the longest time it was known as the Jesuit Garden.

The Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is one of the oldest universities in Ukraine and in the Eastern Europe, and one of the most prestigious in Ukraine. The educational institution is the heir to the collegium (1608-1661) and the Academy (1661-1773) of the Jesuits, Josephine University (1784-1805).

Some of the distinguished students, teachers and heads of the faculties and departments of the University were M. Hrushevsky, B. Dybovsky, A. Lazarenko, O. Stepaniv, I. Franko, Y. Holovatsky, M. Pavlyk, K. Twardovsky, L. Pininsky, S. Banakh, 

K. Lanzkoronska, I. Krypyakevych, M. Pokhylevych and many others.

 Колишній будинок Галицького сейму (тепер головний корпус Львівського національного університету імені Івана Франка) споруджений у 1877–1881 рр. за проєктом архітектора Юліуша Гохберґера. Монументальна споруда сейму зведена у стилі історизму під впливом неоренесансної архітектури Відня другої половини ХІХ ст. Вирізняється багатством скульптурно-орнаментального оздоблення.Перед будівлею зеленіє найстаріший міський парк в Україні – Парк імені  Івана Франка, закладений львівськими міщанами ще у XVI ст. і пізніше переданий ченцям-єзуїтам, тому довгий час відомий під назвою Єзуїтський сад.

 Львівський національний університет імені Івана Франка́ — один із найстаріших університетів України й Східної Європи, один з  найпрестижніших в Україні. Навчальний заклад є  спадкоємцем колегіуму (1608—1661) та академії (1661—1773) єзуїтів, Йосифинського університету (1784—1805).

 Студентами, викладачами та очільниками факультетів і кафедр університету в різні часи були М. Грушевський, Б. Дибовський, А. Лазаренко, О. Степанів, І. Франко, Я. Головацький, М. Павлик, К.Твардовський, Л. Пінінський, С. Банах , К. Ланцкоронська, І. Крип’якевич, М. Похилевич та багато інших.
