Pidhirtsi. Castle

Pidhirtsi Castle is a pearl of palace architecture in western Ukrainian lands. Located among the picturesque Voronyaky’s wooded hills it reveals its image from afar – the highway Lviv – Kyiv. From its lush Baroque terrace you can see the vast expanses of the lowlands of Lesser Polissya in the north. 

In the years 1635-40^th the owner of these territories, Crown Hetman Stanislav Koniecpolskyi, invested significant funds in the design and construction of the castle-palace complex, attracting prominent European specialists for work: engineer Guillaume de Beauplan (bastion fortifications), architect Andrea del Aqua (palace building). At the same time, an Italian park was build near the castle. 

A new stage in the formation of the complex dates to the XVIII century, when the castle was renovated after military destruction, and the territory was expanded. There was a Castle Inn, a unique rotunda church. The palace galleries exhibited a luxurious collection of paintings, works of decorative art, and furniture. The castle, and especially its art collection, suffered during the world wars. With the beginning of the Second World War in 1939, part of the collection of paintings was transported to Brazil. In 1949, a sanatorium (treatment centre) for patients with tuberculosis was opened here. In 1997, thanks to the requests of the public and the active actions of the director of the Lviv Art Gallery Borys Voznytskyi, the Castle was included as part of the museum (now the Lviv National Gallery of Art named after B.G. Voznytsky). Restoration work has begun, which continues to this day. Pidhirtsi Castle retains an elegant Renaissance musical harmony, prompting to complete its original image – with the Mirror, Gold, Yellow, Green, Karmazin, Knight's Halls, Mosaic and Chinese cabinets.

Підгорецький замок – перлина палацової архітектури на західноукраїнських землях. Розташований серед мальовничих лісистих пагорбів Вороняків він розкриває свій образ здалеку – від траси Львів – Київ, а з його пишної барокової тераси видно неосяжні простори низин Малого Полісся на півночі.

У 1635-40 рр. власник цих теренів коронний гетьман Станіслав Конецпольський вклав значні кошти на проєкт та будівництво замково-палацового комплексу, залучивши для роботи визначних європейських фахівців: інженера Гійома де Боплана (бастіонні укріплення), архітектора Андреа дель Аква (палацовий корпус). Тоді ж біля замку був закладений італійський парк. 

Новий етап у формування комплексу сягає XVIII ст., коли замок було відтворено після воєнних руйнувань, а територію розширено. З’явилися замковий заїзд,  унікальний костел-ротонда. У палацових галереях було експоновано розкішну колекцію живопису, творів декоративного мистецтва, меблів.

Замок і особливо його мистецька колекція, постраждали під час світових війн. З початком ІІ світової 1939 р. частину колекції картин встигли перевезти до Бразилії. В 1949 році тут відкрили санаторій для хворих на туберкульоз. 

1997 року завдяки клопотанням громадськості та активних дій директора Львівської картинної галереї Бориса Возницького замок як філія увійшов до  музею (тепер – Львівська національна галерея мистецтв імені Б. Г. Возницького). Розпочалися реставраційні роботи, які тривають донині.    

Підгорецький замок зберігає витончену ренесансну музичну гармонію, спонукаючи до довершення свого первинного образу – з Дзеркальною, Золотою, Жовтою, Зеленою, Кармазиновою, Лицарською залами, Мозаїчним і Китайським кабінетами.
