Stare Selo. (Old Village) The Ruins of the Castle

The castle in the Old Village (“Stare Selo”) is an architectural monument of the XV-XVII centuries, located near Lviv. The first fortification in this area in the form of a wooden castle was built in 1448.

The pentagonal defensive castle of the Ostroh Princes was built in 1584 - 1589 with the participation of Amvrosii Prykhylnyi in the late Renaissance style. The walls of 14 to 16 meters high are completed with an attic decorated with arches, and the gables of the towers are topped with Baroque stone carvings (only three towers have survived to this day).

Stare Selo Castle withstood more than one siege by the Turks. Its arsenal at the time included eight (8) large guns, thirteen (13) mortars (short-barreled guns), 114 rifles, and many firearms and hand-held weapons.

At the beginning of the XIXth century, the huge complex fell into disrepair - Potocki located a brewery here. The soviet government went further, turning the fort into a district vegetable base.

Every year tourists come and marvel at the size and ruins of the monument. Castle still waiting for investors to restore.

Старе село. Руïни замку

Замок у Старому Селі́  — пам'ятка архітектури XV—XVII століть, що знаходиться  поблизу Львова. Перше укріплення на цій території  у вигляді дерев’яного замку збудовано у 1448р.

П'ятикутний оборонний замок князів Острозьких побудований у 1584 - 1589 роках за участі львівського архітектора Амвросія Прихильного у стилі пізнього ренесансу. Мури заввишки 14—16 метрів завершені білокам’яними  

аттиками, оформленими  аркатурою. Аттики  башт оздоблені  вишуканою 

різьбою по каменю (до нашого часу збереглися лише три вежі).

Старосільський замок вистояв не одну облогу турків. Його тодішній арсенал нараховував вісім великих гармат, 13 мортир (короткоствольних гармат), 114 рушниць, а також багато одиниць вогнепальної та холодної зброї.

На початку 19 століття величезний комплекс занепадає остаточно - Потоцькі тут розмістили броварню. Радянська влада пішла далі, перетворивши фортецю на районну овочеву базу.

Щороку туристи приїжджають і дивуються розмірам та руйнації пам'ятки. Замок все ще очікує інвесторів.
